MENG goes A'Viking
So, I have been promising Havordh for 7 years that I would make a Viking
dresss, ...and I have collected tons of glass beads as gifts over the years,
so it was finally time. This is some lovely soft Linen that I had. It is kinda
hard to see on the dress form..sorry...all my chemise are at Lilies in a tub
waiting for me to show up. Also, I don't have any broaches so I thought
these little Rams heads were fun for now.
Not a great picture of me, but you can
see the dress on!
These are outfits that I made for Havordh
and I for Uther and Kenna's Coronation,
but I don't have good pictures of us in
them, but here are some friends that
borrowed them to wear to Crown List in
May 2008. Below are thumbnails of us
wearing them, but again, not full pics.
The Viking Luau Dress...
Caution...this one might hurt your eyes.
Made for the Kingdom of the West's
Viking Luau at Pennsic, this lovely
outfit has a bright pink linen
under-dress and the apron dress has
fabric hat has little beach motif items,
and it is topped off by the Gleann
Abhann trim for straps and sea shells
instead of brooches hold up my
brightly colored beads and my little
lamb charm.
Green Silk 12th Century
Bliaut and Tunic
Havordh's Saxon Coronation
Clothing October 2008
This tunic is of a dark red linen and is
completely hand sewn except for the
machine embroidery at the hem and
the bands on the arms. His hem has
the Knightly virtues and "Gleann
Abhann" along with early-period
crosses in-between each word. On his
left arm is "Chivalry" and on his right is
the kingdom motto of "honor above all".
His cope is in a herring-bone wool and
while the two long seams were
machine sewn, I did a top stitch by
hand with linen thread to finish the
seams. This took forever as this cope
was out of 6 yards and was a full circle
that was pieced together so there were
several seams. There is a border of
black linen that has machine
embroidery as well.
His leg wraps are of a black
herring-bone wool cut on the bias.
He looks bitchin' if i do say so myself
:-)
And here is our Alexander in his tunic
to match dad that I completely hand
sewed as well. The gores on the sides
of the tunic (that you cannot see) have
a decorative "x" stitch.
Orange and Blue Viking
This Apron has Runes embroidered along
the Hem along with a early period knot
work design. The Design is repeated in the
hem of the under-dress and at the cuff of
the sleeve. I like the fun colors and I am
one of the few people that can wear this
color orange. I love it! Havordh has a
matching tunic in the navy blue with Runes
along his hem as well. Both the Apron and
the under-dress are out of linen.
